How the Pirates got here: The 14-0 Pirates won the Avocado League
West and earned the San Diego Section Open Division title. They beat
Carlsbad, Mission Hills (San Marcos) and Helix (La Mesa) in the
playoffs, before a resounding 37-22 win over Edison (Fresno) in the regional final.
The result was never in doubt, as Oceanside opened a 16-0 lead in the first quarter and was up 30-6 at halftime.
Who got them here: The defense as a unit is pretty solid, and running back
Josh Bernard (1,491 yards, 28 touchdowns) averages more than 100 yards per game.
Matthew Romero (3,001 yards, 26 touchdowns) manages the game well at quarterback and
Jordan Miller is a highly ranked recruit at cornerback.
Romero spreads the ball around beautifully as
Johnny Arzola,
John Grumbling and
Isaia Paopao have combined for 22 touchdown catches almost evenly.
Their bowl history: Oceanside won the 2009 Division I title over Bellarmine Prep (San Jose) and won the 2007 Division II title over Novato.

How the Bulldogs got here: The Bulldogs won the Sierra
Foothill League title and earned the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I
crown. They beat Stagg (Stockton), Franklin (Elk Grove), Monterey Trail
(Elk Grove) and Tracy in the playoffs, before a convincing 52-21 win over previously-unbeaten Grant in the regional final. Folsom led 46-0 entering the fourth quarter.
Who got them here: Washington-bound quarterback
Jake Browning (333 of 489, 5,351 yards, 85 touchdowns, 7 interceptions this season) has set gobs of state and national single-season and career records, most notably the career touchdown mark of 223 (in just three seasons). He has a copious number of weapons on offense to work with including
Cole Thompson (75 catches, 1,655 yards, 33 TDs). His touchdown receptions are tied for the state mark.
Josiah Deguara has 108 catches for 1,589 yards and 23 scores. With a Northern California record 857 points, Folsom needs 57 to break the national single-season record of 903. Folsom's big upgrade this season has been along both lines, which are beefier, and an absolutely rock-solid defense with five FBS prospects led by defensive ends
Sam Whitney and
Lukas Hendricks, along with linebackers
Bailey Laolagi and
Sam Whittingham.
Their bowl history:
Folsom won the 2010 Division II title over Serra (Gardena) behind National Player of the Year Dano Graves, the team's quarterback.
