When
Freedom (Woodbridge, Va.) scored 112 points in a win over Charles J. Colgan (Manassas) on Oct. 7, it posted the fifth-highest single game score in state history. The Eagles went on to demolish the single-season state scoring record with 952 points.
The 952 points easily outdistanced the 1996
Hampton team and the 2018
Manchester (Midlothian) squad, each of which finished with 819 points. Freedom's total also easily tops our look at the highest-scoring teams of 2022.
Freedom scored 53 points or more in 11 games with a low of 36 points en route to a 15-0 record and 6A state championship. The Eagles bested No. 2
Mart (Texas) by 76 points. The total also ranks No. 2 all-time in high school football history, finishing only behind the 2013
Aledo (Texas), which had 1,023 points.
Mart's 876 points is the third-highest total in school history. The 2018 team scored 895 points while the 2017 team scored 884. Mart is the only high school program to have three teams score 876 points or more in a season.
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) came in third place with 857 points to set a school record. The previous high was 830 points in 2011. The Gaels also scored 798 points in 2009 and 794 in 2016. The 857 points also sets a Nevada state record.
Bowling Green (Mo.) finished fourth with 840 points, the second-highest total in Missouri history behind the 2013
Lamar (Lamar, Mo.) team that scored 883 points. No. 5
Gore, meanwhile, set the Oklahoma state record with 835 points, beating the old record of
Vian (821 points) in 2012. No. 7
Langston Hughes (Fairburn) also set a Georgia state record with 792 points.
