The high school football season in Georgia came to a close last week with champions crowned in eight classifications. Grayson (Loganville) was
among the winners, taking home the AAAAAAA trophy with a 38-14 win
over rival Collins Hill (Suwanee) and finishing No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top
25 computer rankings.
That victory, coupled with its 14-0
record and tremendous play this season, makes Grayson the 2020 MaxPreps
Champion for the state of Georgia.
Ranked No. 3 nationally by MaxPreps, the Rams were led by four-star quarterback
Jake Garcia, whose journey from California to Georgia has been well documented. The Miami commit threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns in the title victory. In nine games this season, Garcia threw for 1,101 yards and 12 scores.
Clemson commit
Phil Mafah, who was injured heading into the postseason, ran for 1,130 yards and 18 scores for the Rams.
While Garcia and the offense generated headlines, the Grayson defense fueled the team's title aspirations. Led by
Jayvian Allen, the defense held opponents to 112 points in 14 games (8 points per game). In the playoffs, coach Adam Carter's defense ratcheted up the intensity, allowing 20 points in five games while pitching three shutouts.
After opening its doors in 2000, Grayson has become one of Georgia's powerhouse programs, winning state titles in 2011 and 2016 in addition to this season.

About the MaxPreps computer rankings
Our computer rankings utilize the huge number of game results stored in the MaxPreps database. Generally, the more a team wins, the higher the ranking. However, the system takes into account quality wins (against other highly-ranked opponents) and strength of schedule. For example, a team's ranking is hurt more by losing to a team that is ranked below it than a team ranked ahead. Playoff wins are weighted higher than regular season games.
Other factors that will affect the rankings are times when MaxPreps has incomplete or inaccurate information. We will correct errors when they are reported to us. If we are missing a score, report it to us on the team's MaxPreps page. If we are missing a game on the schedule, send us a correction request.
