The high school football season in Idaho came to a close
Saturday with championship games in six classifications. Rocky Mountain was among the winners, beating Rigby 17-14 for the 5A title and finishing No. 1 in the final MaxPreps Top 25 state computer rankings.
That victory, coupled with its 9-0 record and tremendous play this season, makes Rocky Mountain the 2020 MaxPreps Champion for the state of Idaho. The Grizzlies earned their third state title in six years while snapping Rigby's 20-game win streak.
Senior quarterback
Kobe Warr accounted for 231 yards and senior running back
Maxwell Lehman rushed for two touchdowns to lead the charge for Rocky Mountain, which won previous 5A titles in 2015 and 2018.
The team's defense held Rigby 27 points below its season average and avenged a 31-9 season-ending loss to the Trojans in the 2019 5A semifinals. Rocky Mountain also entered that game undefeated and has won 30 of its last 31 games. Over the last six seasons, the Grizzlies are 59-8.
Rocky Mountain was dominant throughout the 2020 season, experiencing only two close calls in the first three weeks in victories over Mountain View (Meridian), 39-36, and Eagle, 22-15. They outscored opponents 342-141.
