Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Josh Ringer of
East Central (St. Leon) is the 2023 MaxPreps Indiana High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior running back led the Trojans to a 15-0 record and second straight Class 4A state title, becoming the first public school to repeat in that classification.
In a 42-14 win over NorthWood (Nappanee) in the state championship game, Ringer capped a record-breaking campaign with 251 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries.
