Perhaps its premature to say that Highlands Ranch is becoming the boys lacrosse mecca of the state, but you wouldn't think otherwise based on the statistical leaderboards.
Three of the top four scorers in Class 5A come from schools within the city:
Tommy Mott of
Highlands Ranch,
Dylan Sandman of
ThunderRidge (Highlands Ranch) and
Colin Munro of
Mountain Vista (Highlands Ranch).
Mott is dominating with 77 points (43 goals and 34 assists), 20 more than anyone else. Sandman has entered the fray with 57 points (38 goals) to land No. 2 on the leaderboard. But perhaps fourth-leading scorer Munro (50 points) has the most to be pleased about. His Golden Eagles are ranked No. 3 while the other two squads are unranked.
A firm reminder of where the power really resides in 5A is found in the classification's No. 3 scorer:
Asher Nolting of
Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village). He's compiled 24 goals and 29 assists for the top-ranked Bruins.
Between the pipes,
Dakota Ridge (Littleton) goalie
Brendan Williams has gone 7-1 and is permitting only 5.4 goals a game. The Eagles are 9-1 overall.
As the regular season winds down, a few forthcoming matchups are worth keeping tabs on: No. 6
Kent Denver (Englewood) travels to No. 2
Regis Jesuit (Aurora) on April 26, and each is unbeaten within the South Suburban League. Likewise, No. 5
Columbine (Littleton) travels to No. 9
Lewis-Palmer (Monument) on May 1, and each team is undefeated within the Jeffco League.
In Class 4A,
Durango's Kyle Robinette is tearing it up with 49 goals and 23 assists for a classification-leading 72 points.
Luke Verratti of
Vail Mountain is next in line with 63 points for the surprising No. 7 Gore Rangers.
Grayson Goodyear of No. 2
Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch), the defending state champion, is next in line with 59 points. And don't be surprised to see a dramatic surge from junior
Gavyn Pure of top-ranked
Dawson School (Lafayette), who has registered 20 goals and 20 assists. He led the state last season with 71 goals and 128 points.
Dawson also has been receiving prime goaltending from the aptly named
Dawson Santangelo. The freshman is 9-1 and is permitting a miniscule 4.7 goals per contest.
A game of note down the stretch is No. 4
Conifer at No. 8
Golden on April 26 (North Area Athletic Complex). This could decide the Foothills League with each team currently 3-0 within the league.
On the girls side, the
Steamboat Springs underclassmen combo of sophomore
Lucy Shimek and freshman
Riley Schott is crushing the leaderboards. They rank Nos. 1 and 2 in points with a combined total of 184.

Shimek leads the way with 97 (72 goals, 25 assists) while Schott has registered 87 (64 and 23) for the Sailors, who have posted a solid 10-3 mark.
Next in line is the
Dakota Ridge (Littleton) combo of
Kailee Lammers and
Hannah Krats. The combo has produced 154 points for the No. 7 Eagles (11-1), who were unbeaten until Thursday's loss to No. 3
Columbine (Littleton).
On the goalie side,
Bridget Sutter of
Colorado Academy (Denver) has been awesome once again. She entered Thursday's game against Loyola Academy (Ill.) with a 7-1 record and had permitted only 5.1 goals per contest. The top-ranked Mustangs lost Thursday but statistics were not immediately posted. Of greater concern for Colorado Academy is an April 28 matchup against No. 4
Denver East, as each team is unbeaten in the Metro League.
Another key game down the stretch could be the Jeffco League finale featuring Columbine and
Chatfield (Littleton) on May 4 at Trailblazer Stadium. They are the lone remaining unbeaten teams in the league, each at 4-0 in league play. Chatfield (6-5 overall), however, must upset Dakota Ridge on April 25 to keep its unscathed mark intact.
