Video: (21) De La Salle vs. Orange Lutheran - High school football previewOrange Lutheran (Calif.) at De La Salle (Concord, Calif.)
Saturday, 7 p.m. Pacific timeWhy it's big: A SoCal versus NorCal clash of state-ranked teams is always a noteworthy event in the Golden State. De La Salle has won four out of five games against Trinity League opponents since 2010. Its only loss was to St. John Bosco in the 2013 Open Division state championship game.
Last week, Orange Lutheran (2-1) played Centennial (Corona) to a 7-7 tie at halftime but eventually succumbed to the No. 3 Huskies' superior size and athleticism in a 35-14 loss.
Austin Liles, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior, had seven catches for 137 yards for the Lancers.
Meanwhile, De La Salle crushed OLu's Trinity League rival Servite (Anaheim), 52-15, to notch its 15th-consecutive win against California opponents. The No. 21 Spartans (2-1) besieged Servite's defense with 562 total yards, including 395 yards rushing.
Names to watch: Orange Lutheran senior
Brandon McKinney, rated a four-star recruit by 247Sports, is one of the top two-way players in California. The 6-2, 190-pound safety/receiver leads his team in both tackles and touchdown receptions.
Although he's not a highly rated college prospect, De La Salle quarterback
Anthony Sweeney is the engine that makes the Spartans' high-powered veer offense go. The 5-9, 180-pound senior has thrown for 371 yards with three touchdowns and also leads the team with 336 rushing yards and four scores.
