Liberty Hill (Texas) has one of the most prolific rushing attacks in high school football history, racking up three of the top six single-season performances of all-time, including 7,117 yards last year.
It doesn't look like the Panthers are slowing down any time soon. Two games into the 2023 season, Liberty Hill has 1,104 yards rushing, including 782 yards in an 82-80 win over
Hutto on Friday.
Against Hutto, Liberty Hill attempted one pass (incomplete) while running the ball 53 times.
Ben Carter ran 25 times for 394 yards and four touchdowns while
Noah Long carried 15 times for 310 yards and five scores.
Hutto racked up some impressive numbers of their own with
Will Hammond completing 36 of 58 passes for 719 yards and four touchdowns. Hutto had 867 yards of total offense compared to Liberty Hill's 782.
Hammond's total is the third-highest single-game passing yardage total in Texas history behind Peyton Bevel of
Stamford, who had 789, and Mike Richardson of
Marble Falls, who had 724. The 80 points is the
eighth highest total ever scored in a loss.

Liberty Hill appears four times in our newest category in the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book — team rushing yards in a season. The Panthers are the only team to appear more than twice on the list, which includes teams that have rushed for over 6,000 yards in a season.
Record Book: Team rushing yards — season
Liberty Hill's all-time best is 7,417 yards in 2018. That ranks No. 2 behind
Pine Bluff (Ark.), which ran for 8,081 yards in 1926. The Zebras are regarded as the national champions for 1926 by the National Sports News Service.
Hammond and Hutto could eventually find a spot on another addition to the MaxPreps football record book — team passing yards in a season. Hammond leads the nation in yards per game at 564 and the only other player over 500 yards a game is
Josh Moody of
Nitro (W.Va.).
Nitro once held the all-time record for most passing yards in a season in 1998 when J.R. House, who became the nation's career passing leader during the season, led a Nitro offense that threw for 5,526 yards.
Record Book: Team passing yards — seasonWith the passing game exploding at the high school level during the 21st century, Nitro stands at No. 26 all-time.
Kenton (Ohio) holds the all-time mark with 6,540 yards set in 2002.
The list for single-season passing yards includes teams that have thrown for over 5,000 yards in a season.
Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.) makes the list 14 times while Kenton makes the list five times and
Folsom (Calif.).
