Katy cruised to its first title since 2015 on Saturday at AT&T Stadium, steamrolling No. 18
Cedar Hill 51-14 in the Texas 6A Division II championship game. Ranked No. 19 nationally this week by MaxPreps, the Tigers did what they always do under legendary head coach Gary Joseph –
play great defense and run the ball effectively – en route to their ninth state crown.
After Katy (13-1) punted on its opening possession, the Tigers scored on every possession until the final one and held Cedar Hill (12-2) and its high-powered offense scoreless until late in the third quarter.
Jalen and
Seth Davis combined to rush for 239 yards and two touchdowns, in the process becoming the fifth duo since 2010 to rush for 3,000-plus yards in a season for Katy.

Caleb Koger completed 5 of 9 passes for 92 yards and a score.
Taylor Saulsberry had a team-high three receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown.
The Tiger defense did something no one else could all year and that was tame Cedar Hill's four-star quarterback
Kaidon Salter. The Tennessee signee completed 12 of 24 passes for 113 yards with two interceptions.
Salter scored both of the Longhorn touchdowns on the ground and finished with 42 yards rushing.

The 51 points scored were the most for the legendary Texas program in a state championship game and the defense accounted for as many points as Cedar Hill's offense.
Cal Varner was named Defensive MVP thanks in part to a 15-yard pick-six and sophomore running back Seth Davis was named the Offensive MVP after rushing for 131 yards and a score.
Katy won its final eight games of the season, outscoring opposition 426-98 after losing its first district game since 2008 against Tompkins (Katy).
