Video: Little League World Series star hits two home runsWatch Hagen Danner hit two out against top-ranked Orange Lutheran.
Hagen Danner of
Huntington Beach (Calif.)
has had his fair share of memorable performances over his baseball
career. Last week, he added to that list with a pair of home runs and a
pitching win over No. 3 Orange Lutheran (Orange).
Danner is not unfamiliar with getting the big hit in a big game. As a 12-year-old, Danner led Ocean View to a Little League World Series championship by hitting a home run in a 2-1 win over Japan.
Last week against the Lancers, the No. 3-ranked squad in the most recent MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National High School Baseball Rankings, Danner hit a pair of round-trippers and also had a double that hit the top of the wall - just inches away from a third home run.
"It feels good and I just want to keep it going," Danner told the Orange County Register. "I felt really good this morning... and I had a feeling it was going to be a really good day."
Danner also pitched six innings against Orange Lutheran to get the win, giving up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Oiler coach Benji Medure wasn't surprised by Danner's performance.
"He always steps up on a big stage, whether it's on the mound or hitting or behind the plate, he usually steps up and he definitely did that today" Medure told the Orange County Register.
The win over Orange Lutheran put Huntington Beach at No. 6 in this week's rankings. The Oilers face another big test this week when they take on JSerra Catholic and MaxPreps preseason All-American Royce Lewis.
