Video: Amazing one-handed catch
Pat Galer sets up touchdown with one-handed catch for Whitesboro in playoff win. A New York prep receiver did his best impersonation of New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. with a one-handed grab toward the right front corner of the end zone.
The only thing missing was a touchdown after
Pat Galer of
Whitesboro (Marcy, N.Y.) came down one yard short in a 45-18 playoff win over Union-Endicott on Friday.
According to
syracuse.com, the play before the spectacular catch, Galer hauled in an 18-yard TD pass from
Donte Filletti but it was wiped out by penalty.
From the 29, reporter Nolan Weidner described it this way: "Galer made the play of the game - and maybe the play of the year in area high school football — when he ran underneath the pass, stretched, and hauled it in with one hand."
"I just kind of threw it up there and got tackled," Filletti told Weidner. "I looked up and he was catching it one-handed. I saw it on the (scoreboard) afterward and said, 'Oh my God, that's amazing.' "
Said Whitesboro coach Tom Schoen: "He goes out and has the quarterback throw him the ball and he catches it with one hand. And he does it every day."
The Warriors improved to 11-0 and
advanced to the NYSPHSAA Class A semifinals. They are the third seed.
