Top-ranked Class of 2024 high school basketball prospect
Cooper Flagg of
Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) announced his commitment to Duke early Monday morning, selecting the Blue Devils over defending national champion Connecticut.
Flagg was dominant over the summer while playing for his club team Maine United 16U where he averaged 25.4
points, 13.0 rebounds, 6.9 blocked shots, 5.7 assists and 1.4 steals per
contest to help his squad finish with a 6-1 record and pull off a
major upset of Nightrydas Elite in pool play.
Overall, Flagg averaged 26.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.2 blocks and 5.0 assists per contest while shooting 52.3 percent from the field in 24 games with Maine United in Nike EYBL 16U action.
After being named MaxPreps Maine Player of the Year as a freshman at
Nokomis (Newport, Maine),
Flagg transferred to Montverde Academy ahead of his sophomore year.
There, he helped Eagles to the NIBC championship before being upset in
the first round of GEICO Nationals to finish the season ranked No. 2 in
the National Top 10.
Flagg averaged 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 blocks per game as a sophomore in just under 18 minutes per contest. He is expected to play a much larger role for the Eagles this season, who are favorites to win their second consecutive NIBC title and
seventh GEICO Nationals title in program history.
In August, Flagg announced he would be reclassifying up to the Class of
2024. The MaxPreps National Player of the Year candidate is the projected top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and widely considered to be the top prospect regardless of classification.
