Kenton (Ohio) seemed set for somewhat of a rebuilding - or at least quieter - season in 2012.

Not so, however, because
Grant Sherman, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound junior, has stepped in this fall - after being an understudy for two years - and the beat truly is going on for the 3-1 Wildcats.
All Sherman did on Friday night was complete 44 of 53 passes to six different receivers for 684 yards and nine touchdowns during a 66-42 victory over Shawnee (Lima, Ohio). The
Lima News reported that he tied the state record for touchdown passes and his yardage total is believed to be a state record.
Justin Sawmiller snared 15 passes for 318 yards and two touchdowns, while
Zach Wolowicz caught 11 for 145 yards.
In the first quarter alone, the dynamic Sherman completed 22 of 26 passes for 335 yards and he had 570 yards by halftime.
Kenton coach Mike Mauk (Maty's father), who was headed to a University of Missouri football game, told MaxPreps that statistics will not be completely official until he reviews film on Sunday. Before Friday's game, Sherman had completed 77 of 121 for 1,055 yards with 15 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Mauk pointed out that Sherman "had a great summer preparing for the season. He had a good first three games. He made good decisions and did a good job of reading coverages. A lot of (Division I) people are looking at him."
The Kenton coach said that Missouri probably will redshirt his son. He added that Maty has become a close friend of another standout Missouri freshman, wide receiver
Dorial Green-Beckham.
Being able to produce a prolific offense year after year puts Mike Mauk in an elite class. He emphasized that he is happy at Kenton, but as far as being lured away by a college or a bigger high school, he said philosophically, "You never know what a day might bring."
