South Central's 26-point victory was the largest winning margin in 4A championship game history – surpassing the mark set by
Southwest Guilford (High Point) with a 24-point victory in 2017.
Speaking of Southwest Guilford, the Cowboys emerged victorious in the Class 3A title game, defeating
Walter M. Williams (Burlington) 67-60 in a hard-fought game that went back and forth for much of the first half.
Southwest Guilford took over in the second half to finish the season unbeaten at 32-0.
Ranked No. 19 nationally by MaxPreps, the Cowboys were playing without injured teammate
Christian Martin. The senior wing suffered a serious head injury in their semifinal victory over Cox Mill (Concord).
According to the Greensboro News & Record, Martin emerged from a medically-induced coma Saturday.
