Top 10 high school football winning streaks heading into 2016

Edgewood Academy begins the 2016 season with the longest active 11-man win streak in the nation and the ninth-longest win streak of all-time with 70 straight victories.

The Wildcats finished the year as the Alabama Independent Schools Association Class AA state champions and have won six straight state championships. They have not lost since falling to Glenwood (Phenix City, Ala.) on Oct. 22, 2010.

Edgewood Academy has a wide lead on the second-highest streak. Valle Catholic comes in at No. 2 with 45 wins in a row. Valle Catholic has put together three straight 15-0 seasons and last lost to Penney (Hamilton, Mo.) in the Class 1A state final on Nov. 23, 2012.

In 8-man football, Pahranagat Valley takes a 93-game win streak into the 2016 season. The Panthers broke the national 8-man winning streak of 92 games, set by Shattuck (Okla.) from 2003 to 2009.

The 93 games is the third-longest win streak for any level of football, trailing only the 151-game win streak by De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) and 109 by Independence (Charlotte, N.C.).

The 2015 football season saw the end of nine of the top 10 win streaks heading into the school year:

- Christ Church Episcopal (Greenville, S.C.) had its state record 56-game win streak ended by Abbeville, 55-14.

- Maine-Endwell (Endwell, N.Y.) had its state record 62-game win streak end with a 43-26 loss to South Park (Buffalo, N.Y.).

- Buford (Ga.) had its 45-game on-the-field win streak ended by McEachern (Powder Springs), 37-14.

- Allen (Texas) had its 57-game win streak ended by Westlake (Austin, Texas), 23-17.

- Booker T. Washington (Miami) had its 41-game win streak ended by St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 35-3.

- Junction City (Ark.) had its 41-game win streak ended by Rison, 15-14.

- Marion Local (Maria Stein, Ohio) had its 43-game win streak ended by Coldwater, 17-14.

- Fulton (Knoxville, Tenn.) had its 37-game win streak ended by Maryville (Tenn.), 49-18.

- South Fayette (McDonald, Pa.) had its 44-game win streak ended by Aliquippa, 44-38.
