Softball Game Preview: Philip Simmons Iron Horses vs. Academic Magnet Raptors

For the second straight game, Philip Simmons will face off against Academic Magnet. Philip Simmons will host Academic Magnet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Philip Simmons will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Monday, then bounced right back against Academic Magnet on Tuesday. Philip Simmons put the hurt on Academic Magnet with a sharp 17-7 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Iron Horses' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Academic Magnet's part, Brianna Robinson put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). Robinson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Isabella Costa made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She also put up a hit, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mason Willis, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

Academic Magnet is on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5. As for Philip Simmons, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
