Loyalton is 4-0 against Virginia City since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Loyalton Grizzlies will be playing at home against the Virginia City Muckers at 5:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Loyalton came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 55-5 victory over Westwood on the road. Loyalton has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 21 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Loyalton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophie Holland, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds. Holland has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Catherine Petterson, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Virginia City scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by Mineral County at home to the tune of 57-13. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 33-6.
Virginia City got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaiya Krum out in front who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Krum is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Matley Kelley was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Loyalton pushed their record up to 6-6 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Virginia City, their win ended a 12-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-15.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Loyalton have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Virginia City struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 22.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Loyalton strolled past Virginia City in their previous meeting last Wednesday by a score of 36-18. Does Loyalton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Virginia City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
