Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Daniel). Everything went their way against the Travelers Rest Devildogs on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-3 win. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Devildogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Julian Baldwin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Luke Turner looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Ty Simpson was a standout: he fired off two home runs, five RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Spencer Conn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles.
Daniel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
Daniel's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Travelers Rest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Daniel will host Pickens at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions are facing the Blue Flame at the right time seeing as the Blue Flame are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Travelers Rest, they will be playing at home against Blue Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Fighting Tigers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
