Basketball Recap: Central City's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Central City waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Fairbury Jeffs by a score of 47-38. Given the Bison's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Jeffs are ranked 146th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Central City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sydni Homolka led the charge by dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Homolka has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Reagan Fousek was another key player, putting up 12 points and six steals.

Central City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairbury only pulled down three offensive boards.

When it comes to explaining why Fairbury lost, don't look at Izzy Ohlde. Despite the final result, she went 6 of 15 on her way to 16 points and six rebounds. That's the most boards Ohlde has posted since back in December of 2023.

Central City's record now sits at 8-1. As for Fairbury, their record is now 2-5.

Central City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 31-29 defeat against Cross County on the 2nd. As for Fairbury, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-43 win against Nebraska Christian on the 2nd.
