Sandy is 0-5 against Sunset since September of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sandy Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Sunset Apollos.
Last Thursday, Sandy lost to Barlow at home by a decisive 28-14 margin. Sandy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Although Sandy took the loss, they still got scores from Cole Rotzien and Kaidan Porter.
Meanwhile, Sunset got themselves on the board against Westview on Friday, but Westview never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 28-0 win over the Wildcats on the road. Considering Sunset has won four contests by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Sunset can attribute much of their success to Drew Nees, who rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 148 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Hurley, who picked up 96 receiving yards and a touchdown.
With Sandy's defeat and Barlow's win, both teams now sport identical 4-5 records.
Sandy came up short against Sunset when the teams last played back in August, falling 26-21. Can Sandy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
