Softball Recap: Breckenridge Takes a Loss

Breckenridge lost against Eastland back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Breckenridge Buckaroos took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eastland Mavericks. Buckaroos fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Mavericks since on Tuesday.

Olyvia Perez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Joni Jackson and Raegan Robinson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Jackson went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one stolen base, while Robinson went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Robinson has posted since back in February.

Breckenridge's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-8-1. As for Eastland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Breckenridge will challenge Early at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Breckenridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Eastland, they will face off against Tolar at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
