When the
La Porte (Texas) high school football team gets to play at home again, it will be in a brand-new $56 million palace that proves things really are bigger in Texas.
Texas Football Life unveiled photos of the Houston area school's stadium and it's impressive.
Increased seating capacity, expanded track, a state-of-the-art weight room and new press box are all part of the facility upgrades. La Porte ISD voters approved a $235 million bond package in May 2023 that included the $56 million stadium renovation.
The old stadium was razed and the Bulldogs became the road 'Dogs while work continued.
La Porte hasn't played a home game since 2022, a fact that hasn't hampered the on-field product as the program has gone 10-4 and 8-3 in the past two seasons, winning back-to-back district championships. The Bulldogs are 9-0 as the "home team" while hosting games at
Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu) 24 miles from campus and
Deer Park 12 miles away as stadium work continued.
The stadium is expected to be ready for the season opener Aug. 29 against Deer Park.
