Two dominant guards in Garrett Turnbull and Landon Brewer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hicksville Aces and the Antwerp Archers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hicksville has struggled recently with nine defeats in a row, while the Archers will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Saturday, Hicksville suffered a rough 65-40 defeat at the hands of the Knights. While losing is never fun, Hicksville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 762nd, while the Knights are ranked 198th).
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Antwerp over the Locomotives in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Antwerp blew past the Locomotives 65-41.
Brewer was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Carson Altimus, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Hicksville dropped their record down to 3-15 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Antwerp, their victory bumped their record up to 16-2.
Hicksville might still be hurting after the 68-45 loss they got from the Archers in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brewer, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Now that Hicksville knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
