Even though the Lejeune Devil Pups have not done well against the Northside - Pinetown Panthers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Everything went Lejeune's way against Northside - Pinetown as Lejeune made off with a 84-59 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Trevor Highsmith was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 17 points for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Charles, who scored 22 points.
Northside - Pinetown's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Griffin Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nick Moore, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Lejeune is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for Northside - Pinetown, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lejeune will take on East Carteret at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in East Carteret's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine games. As for Northside - Pinetown, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Pamlico County at 7:30 p.m. Pamlico County will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Northside - Pinetown surely won't give up without a fight.
