A feisty cat fight will be fought when the York Cougars face off against the Blacksburg Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday... York has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the third.
Last Saturday, York took a blow against Corvian Community, falling 71-30.
York's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Peyton Lowery, who posted eight points, and Jackson Rampey, who had seven points.
Meanwhile, it was close, but Blacksburg ultimately received the gift of a 61-58 win from a begrudging Wildcats squad.
York better keep an eye on Saad Lavender. He was instrumental in Blacksburg's win, dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Cobb, who put up 12 points and five rebounds.
Blacksburg has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 3-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for York, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: York has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Blacksburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
York didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Blacksburg when the teams last played back in December of 2021, but they still walked away with a 55-50 victory. Does York have another victory up their sleeve, or will Blacksburg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
