Mary Walker has struggled against Wellpinit recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Mary Walker lost, one person who can't be blamed is Teko Cates. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Cates scored a full 32.1% of Mary Walker's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Gavin Lawrence was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Mary Walker now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Wellpinit, the win was the 19th in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record for this year to 2-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mary Walker will face off against Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wellpinit won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Almira-Coulee-Hartline at 6:00 p.m. on December 9th. Almira-Coulee-Hartline will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Wellpinit is ranked 35th).
