After both having extra time off, the Oxford Prep Griffins and the Voyager Academy Vikings will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Oxford Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Oxford Prep took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Person.
Addyson Faucette spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hailey Crowder and Makala Roberson did most of the damage at the plate: Crowder went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Roberson went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Mileena Webb was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Voyager Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch last Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 12-0 to Roxboro Community. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Voyager Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Oxford Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Voyager Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Oxford Prep has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Voyager Academy, though, as they've been averaging 11.8 hits. Given Oxford Prep's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Oxford Prep took their win against Voyager Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 16-4 score. Do the Griffins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
