The Ringgold Redskins will head out to challenge the Jonesboro-Hodge Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Ringgold is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Ringgold got the win against Woodlawn-Shreveport by a conclusive 15-5. The Redskins haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Jayla Joyner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Faith Clifton was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Addison Kilpatrick was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Ringgold always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .944. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Jonesboro-Hodge came up short against Union Parish on Friday, falling 12-4. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
A Ashcraft was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Those hits marked the first that she got this season. Another player making a difference was B Thompson, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Ringgold's record is now 11-9. As for Jonesboro-Hodge, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ringgold has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .539. However, it's not like Jonesboro-Hodge struggles in that department as they've averaged .537. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ringgold skirted past Jonesboro-Hodge 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
