They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 51-21 victory over Ayden - Grifton. Given SouthWest Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Ayden - Grifton is ranked 531st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
SouthWest Edgecombe found their leader in underclassman Kd Collins, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Collins has scored at least a third of SouthWest Edgecombe's points. A'Chonacey (Chonie) Mabry was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten steals.
Washington dropped their record down to 2-16 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
Washington was taken down by SouthWest Edgecombe 65-33 when the teams last played back in January. Can Washington avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
