After flying high against the Fredonia Lynx on Friday, the Williams Vikings came back down to earth. Williams took a hard 55-39 fall against St. Michael on Saturday. Williams has not had much luck with St. Michael recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Williams lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kai Mortensen . Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Mortensen scored a full 51.3% of Williams' points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Liliana Vazquez , who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Williams has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for St. Michael, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.
Williams will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on El Capitan/Centennial Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. As for St. Michael, they will head out on the road to face off against San Carlos at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in San Carlos' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups.
