Baseball Game Preview: Pacifica Tritons vs. Ventura Cougars

Pacifica is 2-8 against Ventura since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Pacifica will take on Ventura at 3:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.

Pacifica is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over San Fernando on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Pacifica got a great performance from Ricky Garcia as he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Garcia has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dario Navarro was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Ortega, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Pacifica was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Ventura had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They never let the Royals get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Wylan Nelson was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Elijah Burt was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Pacifica and bumps their season record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Ventura, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5-1.
