This season hasn't been kind to the Brazos Cougars, who are still winless after their fifth match. They were beaten by Cornerstone Christian 63-11 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Brazos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1330th, while Cornerstone Christian is ranked 119th).
Cornerstone Christian found their leader in underclassman Yasmeen Schmidt, who scored 19 points along with 7 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Schmidt has scored at least 25% of Cornerstone Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Kiana Henning, who scored 6 points along with 6 assists and 5 steals.
Brazos' defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Cornerstone Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Brazos will take on Industrial at 5:40 p.m. on Thursday. Industrial comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Cornerstone Christian will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Hallettsville at 10:40 a.m. on December 1st. Hallettsville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
