Claysburg-Kimmel is 2-8 against Mount Union since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Claysburg-Kimmel barely beat Southern Huntingdon County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Rockets on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won five in a row.
Brayden Haney was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Haney was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Ayden Soler and Mason Campagna did most of the damage at the plate: Soler went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and one run, while Campagna went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Soler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gavin Treon, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Claysburg-Kimmel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Mount Union came tearing into Monday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 8-3.
Julian Weirich was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Levi Hunsinger was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Mount Union's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Claysburg-Kimmel has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mount Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Claysburg-Kimmel couldn't quite finish off Mount Union in their previous matchup last Friday and fell 4-2. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
