After a string of nine wins, the Cottage Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 46-35 to Howard. Cottage was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Howard apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played two weeks ago.
When it comes to explaining why Cottage lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alyssa Briggs. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Briggs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last nine games she's played. Gabby Pressnall was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Ava Beck went supernova for Howard, scoring 28 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Beck has scored all season.
Cottage's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-7. As for Howard, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Cottage will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Mill Springs Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th. Cottage's defense has only allowed 29 points per game this season, so Mill Springs Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. Howard does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
