After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pleasant Valley, the Chico Panthers were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They walked away with a 66-59 victory over Yuba City. Given Chico's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while Yuba City is ranked 766th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chico to victory, but perhaps none more so than Magnus Nielsen, who scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nielsen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jake Serrao, who scored 18 points.
Chico's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-9. As for Yuba City, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chico on the road again on Friday and play against Shasta at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Yuba City, they will square off against Woodcreek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Woodcreek's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Yuba City has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
