The Orangeville Broncos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matchups by 21 points or more this season. They breezed by Durand on the road to the tune of 64-26. Given Orangeville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Durand is ranked 516th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Orangeville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Whitney Sullivan, who scored 23 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The contest was Sullivan's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadalee Doyle, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Durand had strong showings from Caitlind Maines, who scored five points along with five rebounds, and Lola Robertson, who scored four points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Maines has scored all season.
Even though they lost, Durand were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orangeville only racked up 17 assists.
The victory (which was Orangeville's fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Durand, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orangeville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Pearl City at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Pearl City has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 6. As for Durand, they will head out on the road to face off against Aquin Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Aquin Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday.
