Basketball Recap: Williams Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Cavion Stokes and Colby Elliot

Williams was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 70-68 heartbreaker at the hands of the Eastern Alamance Eagles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-54 back in January.

Williams' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Colby Elliot, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds, and Cavion Stokes, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 18 points along with seven assists and four steals. Those 18 points gave Stokes a new career-high. Jaeden Smith was another key player, putting up 13 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Williams was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Alamance only racked up ten assists.

Ja'Vier Tinnin was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine boards for Eastern Alamance. The match was Tinnin's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hunter Eichman, who went 5 for 12 en route to 16 points.

Williams' loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Eastern Alamance, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williams has already played their next game (against Western Alamance), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Eastern Alamance is taking a road trip to face off against Cedar Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastern Alamance knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 contests -- so hopefully Cedar Ridge likes a good challenge.
