Lejeune is 1-9 against East Carteret since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Lejeune Devil Pups will be playing at home against the East Carteret Mariners at 7:30 p.m. Lejeune has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 376 points over their last five matches.
Even though Lejeune has not done well against Northside - Pinetown recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Everything went Lejeune's way against Northside - Pinetown as Lejeune made off with a 84-59 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Trevor Highsmith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 17 points for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Charles, who scored 22 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, East Carteret's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The matchup between them and Pamlico County wasn't particularly close, with East Carteret falling 82-65. The matchup was a 34-34 toss-up at halftime, but East Carteret couldn't quite close it out.
Loss or not, East Carteret got some senior leadership from Shamel Baker and Charles Matheka. Baker dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten assists, while Matheka. scored 24 points along with two steals and two blocks. Baker also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Brady Doans was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Lejeune is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for East Carteret, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8.
Lejeune might still be hurting after the 80-54 loss they got from East Carteret in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Matheka, who scored 30 points along with six assists.
