The Laurel Christian Lions won the last time they faced the Sylva Bay Academy Saints, and things went their way on Friday too. Laurel Christian had just enough and edged the Saints out 47-45.
Laurel Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Emma Risher led the charge by scoring 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylyn Holifield, who scored 11 points.
Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lily Hatcher, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Reese Shumock was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Laurel Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. As for Sylva Bay Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-12.
Laurel Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sylva Bay Academy will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Porter's Chapel Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Saints in Mississippi (the Eagles are ranked 65th, while the Saints are ranked 241st).
