Newman Central Catholic hasn't had much luck against Kewanee recently, but that could start to change  on Thursday. The Comets will face off against the Boilermakers at 4:30  p.m. Newman Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8  runs per game  this season.
Newman Central Catholic came out on top against Mendota  on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Comets walked away with  a   6-2  victory over the Trojans. The  win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won seven in a row.

 Gianna Vance was a  major factor while hitting and pitching. She  didn't allow a single  earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those  13  strikeouts gave  her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate,  going 3-for-4 with three  RBI, one  run,  and one  double.
 In other batting news,  Anna Propheter was  excellent,  going 2-for-4 with two  stolen bases, one  run,  and one  double. Those  two  stolen bases gave  her a new career-high.  Lucy Oetting was another key player,  going 2-for-4 with two  runs and one  stolen base.
 Newman Central Catholic  kept the outfield on their toes and  finished the game with 13  hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their  hit total in four consecutive  contests.
 Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Kewanee's offense. They came up short against  Brimfield on Wednesday, falling  8-0. Considering the last time the Boilermakers couldn't score was  back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
 Newman Central Catholic's record now sits at 7-13. As for Kewanee, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging  on Thursday. Newman Central Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season,  having  averaged 0.5  home runs per game. However, it's not like Kewanee struggles in that department as   they've been averaging 0.4  home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
 Newman Central Catholic couldn't quite get it done against Kewanee when the teams last played  on Monday as they fell  6-3. Can the Comets avenge their  loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
