Basketball Recap: Latta Skates Past Green Sea Floyds with Ease

Latta entered their tilt with Green Sea Floyds on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Green Sea Floyds Trojans 63-11. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Trojans are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Latta was led to victory by Azarriona Mcrae and Kaliya Herman. Mcrae went 6 of 9 en route to 12 points in addition to eight boards and five steals, while Herman posted 12 points and eight steals. Mcrae has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Shiayre Jones was another key player, putting up eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Latta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Latta has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 18.8 points per game. As for Green Sea Floyds, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Latta will head out to square off against Johnsonville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Latta's defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so Johnsonville's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Green Sea Floyds, they are taking a road trip to take on Carvers Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carvers Bay will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Green Sea Floyds surely won't give up without a fight.
