Garfield is 4-0 against Legacy since September of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Garfield Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Legacy Tigers at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Garfield's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
Last Friday, Garfield got themselves on the board against South East, but South East never followed suit. They really took it to the Jaguars for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-0 win at home. The result was nothing new for Garfield, who have now won seven games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Among those leading the charge was Jayden Barnes, who picked up 117 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Damian Cabrera, who threw for 230 yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Legacy's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They took a serious blow against Huntington Park, falling 42-14.
Even though the team lost, they still came through with several impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Moises Muro, who rushed for 93 yards on only six carries, and also caught a touchdown.
Garfield's win was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-1. Having lost for the first time this season, Legacy fell to 7-1.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Damian Cornejo and Matthew Castillo. Cornejo has put up some stellar numbers this year, and currently owns excellent season averages of 111.6 rushing yards per game this season. For his part, Castillo has averaged 229.5 rushing yards per game this season.
Everything came up roses for Garfield against Legacy in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 70-7 win. Does Garfield have another victory up their sleeve, or will Legacy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
