The Tucker County Mountain Lions waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Petersburg and snuck past 54-51. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Tucker County also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
It was another big night for Raven Matthews, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ericka Zirk, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Tucker County pushed their record up to 13-4 with that win, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.9 points per game. As for Petersburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tucker County is on the road again on Monday and plays Grafton at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th. Hopefully Grafton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Thursday. As for Petersburg, they will head out on the road to take on Tucker County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
