The Cheyenne Wells Tigers waltzed into their contest on Thursday with ten straight wins but they left with 11. They were the clear victor by a 43-22 margin over Wiley. Given Cheyenne Wells' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Wiley is ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cheyenne Wells was led to victory by Carson Noe and Corey Hill. Noe scored 14 points, while Hill dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Hill is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Zach Dickey was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Wiley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rhett McDonald, who scored seven points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Larrick, who scored six points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Wiley struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cheyenne Wells pushed their record up to 12-2 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Wiley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cheyenne Wells won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Granada at 4:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Cheyenne Wells focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday. As for Wiley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eads at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Eads is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.
