The North Star Cougars will take on the Southern Fulton Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Star is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
North Star fell victim to Meyersdale and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Red Raiders, falling 8-0. It was the first time this season that the Cougars let down their fans at home.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern Fulton). They put the hurt on North Hagerstown with a sharp 21-5 win on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Claire Harvey made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Kamryn Pittman was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brynley Schriever, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Southern Fulton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Southern Fulton is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for North Star, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. North Star has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Southern Fulton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
North Star might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Southern Fulton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road?
