The Lone Star Longhorns's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell 44-33 to Fleming. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lone Star in their matchups with Fleming: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the defeat, Lone Star had strong showings from Aleighcea Kuntz, who scored six points along with three steals, and Peytyn Kuntz, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Amanda Kubitz, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Fleming found their leader in underclassman Brooke Schaefer, who scored 11 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. The game was Schaefer's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayley Chamberlain, who scored eight points.
Lone Star's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Fleming, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Lone Star will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bethune at 3:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024. Fleming will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Arickaree at 4:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
