The Fleming Island Golden Eagles will square off against the Tocoi Creek Toros at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fleming Island is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
While Fleming Island's victory against Bishop Snyder wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Golden Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Olivia Sikes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Ashlyn Madine was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Sikes wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Fleming Island kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Tocoi Creek's offense. They fell just short of Bartram Trail by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. The Toros' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Tocoi Creek saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaycee Huff, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double. That double marked the first that Huff hit this season.
Fleming Island pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Tocoi Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Both Fleming Island and Tocoi Creek just can't seem to miss. The Golden Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Tocoi Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fleming Island came out on top in a nail-biter against Tocoi Creek in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Toros turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
