There's no place like home for the Dana Hills Dolphins, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 60-42 win over El Toro on Tuesday. Given Dana Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while El Toro is ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dana Hills found their leader in underclassman Kayla Rice, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Regan Akason, who scored nine points along with five assists and three steals.
Mia Cubacub and Bridget Boyd certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Cubacub scored 15 points along with five rebounds, while Boyd scored 16 points. Cubacub is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played.
Dana Hills pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for El Toro, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dana Hills will take on Mission Viejo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for El Toro, they will head out on the road to challenge Capistrano Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Capistrano Valley is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
