The E.E. Smith Golden Bulls were the 63-62 winner over the Westover Wolverines when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. E.E. Smith took a 60-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westover on Friday. While losing is never fun, E.E. Smith can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Westover is ranked 45th).
E.E. Smith's loss came despite strong showings from Derek Green and Jackson Williams. Green dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Williams scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Zyrik Speller was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Westover got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ari Fulton out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Allen, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
E.E. Smith now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Westover, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
E.E. Smith will head out on the road to square off against Western Harnett at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Western Harnett comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Westover, they will be playing at home against Scotland at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Scotland is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.7 points per game.
