Softball Game Preview: Wink Wildcats vs. Ozona Lions

Wink hasn't had much luck against Ozona recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Wink Wildcats face off against Ozona Lions at 5:00 p.m. Ozona took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wink, who comes in off a win.

Wink lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Van Horn, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's game. Everything went Wink's way against Van Horn on Tuesday as Wink made off with a 12-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Viviana Flores made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Jones, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Myla Sonnier, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Wink always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Van Horn only posted an OBP of .118.

Meanwhile, Ozona came up short against Forsan two weeks ago, falling 14-1. The matchup marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

This is the second loss in a row for Ozona and nudges their season record down to 3-4-1. As for Wink, their record now sits at 3-4.

Wink might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Ozona in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Wink avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
